TENURE TRACK FACULTY POSITION IN CHEMISTRY

The Department of Chemistry at The University of Texas at San Antonio (https://chemistry.utsa.edu) invites applications for a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor position beginning fall 2020. UTSA is a vibrant and growing campus with a diverse faculty focused on scholarship and the education of a multicultural community of students. Candidates must have the ability to work with and be sensitive to the educational needs of a culturally diverse urban population and be willing to contribute to UTSA’s commitment to thrive as a Hispanic Serving Institution and a model for Student Success. Candidates from all subdisciplines of chemistry are welcome to apply especially those with expertise in Biochemistry or Physical Chemistry.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Chemistry/Biochemistry or a related field. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, (1) scholarly activities entailing the development of a robust, externally funded research program, (2) teaching courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, (3) participation in institutional service activities, (4) the ability and desire to work collegially with faculty from diverse cultural backgrounds and (5) the ability to work with, and be sensitive to, the educational needs of students from a diverse urban population.

Preferred Qualifications

Postdoctoral experience is preferred as is prior experience teaching and mentoring students from diverse cultural backgrounds

Additional Information

The Department of Chemistry at UTSA is a research-intensive unit located within the College of Sciences. The department is home to modern research space including a variety of core facilities encompassing mass spectrometry, NMR spectroscopy, and X-ray crystallography among other areas. The university fosters and encourages collaboration among departments and with nearby institutions such as UT Health San Antonio, Texas BioMed, and the Southwest Research Institute. UTSA is advancing transdisciplinary research through cluster hires and investments in several areas including brain health, analytics and data science, augmented reality/virtual reality, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, human performance, Latin American studies, and quantum communication & computing.
